According to the AFP news agency, Russia's foreign ministry said on Sunday that "the misinformation spread by Britain is another indication that the NATO-led Anglo-Saxon nations are escalating the crisis over Ukraine."

Russia, in response to a statement from Britain, said: "We urge the State Department to suspend its use of non-violence.

On Saturday, Britain said it had information that Moscow was trying to "bring a pro-Russian leader into government" in Ukraine.

A statement from London said there was evidence that several former Ukrainian politicians had links to Russia's intelligence service and that a former member of parliament, Yogan Murayev, was being viewed by Moscow as Ukraine's new leader.

British Foreign Secretary Liz Trose said in a statement that the information released was a clear indication of Russia's plan to destroy Ukraine, and that it was a reflection of Russia's thinking.

The statement added that "Russia should reduce tensions and pursue diplomacy through its aggression and misinformation."

The British Foreign Secretary said that Russia's military intervention in Ukraine would be a "huge strategic mistake" and would have to pay a heavy price.

It is believed that Russia has deployed its forces on the border with neighboring Ukraine, which is causing tensions in the region.
