According to the British news agency Reuters, the visit of Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani came after Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amir Abdullahian's statement on Monday in which he said that if "good nuclear deal". Tehran is ready for direct talks with Washington.

Iran's state news agency IRNA says the Qatari foreign minister's visit is not intended to help direct talks with Washington. According to Erna, "although there are good relations between Doha and Tehran, the visit has led to some misunderstandings, which some people are trying to fabricate in the context of direct relations with the United States. There have been eight rounds of talks between Iran and the United States in Vienna since April.

Earlier in 2018, former US President Donald Trump distanced the United States from the 2015 nuclear deal and imposed sanctions on Iran, despite repeated violations by Iran. Much remains to be done in terms of the speed and scope of the return to the agreement, including a guarantee from Iran that the United States would not take further punitive measures.

The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, will hold talks with Biden on January 31 to discuss efforts to restore the agreement. Qatari Minister Sheikh Mohammed says the Emir of Qatar is expected to visit Washington on Friday.

In a meeting with Sheikh Mohammed, Iran's hardline president Raeesi called for better relations with countries in the region, who also invited the Iranian president to Doha. The top US diplomat involved in the talks told Reuters on Saturday that there was no prospect of a resumption of the agreement until the release of four Americans held hostage by Iran.

On the other hand, Tehran rejected Washington's condition, saying that the two sides could reach a lasting solution on both issues (Vienna talks and prisoner exchange) with the United States if they wished.
